Nestled in a thriving café precinct in the Brisbane suburb of Mitchelton, this Italian family restaurant has been a welcome addition to the local community. Previously a run-down burger joint, the space has been brought back to life with a little imagination, the use of bold, lively colours and lighting.

The vision for this restaurant was always family friendly. While the bar makes a big statement, the gelato fridge adds a touch a magic for the local kids.

Some existing elements of the original restaurant had to stay, such as the black subway tiles. Introducing the deep teal - painted on the walls, bar and ceiling helped add impact and drama to the space. All of a sudden the black tiles were less imposing and actually created a nice opportunity for light to bounce around the space.

The use of reeded glass pendant and wall lights in the space create a lovely sense of warmth - particularly in the evenings.

Rather than adding more dining tables to the indoor space some comfortable lounge areas were defined to encourage patrons to drop in for a casual coffee.

The use of colour was nod to the traditional Italian colours of red, white and green but aimed to create a more modern, sophisticated feeling.

The interior of the restaurant looks beautiful in the evening thanks to the moody colours and lighting but lends itself equally to daylight hours with the large glass doors sliding back to open up the space to the beautiful Queensland climate.
